Wafaa Delivers 40 Wheelchairs to Support People with Disabilities
On December 23rd, 2024, Wafaa Foundation for Development and Capacity Building delivered 40 wheelchairs to the Ministry of Social Development, with funding from the Canadian organization Penny Appeal. This initiative comes as a step towards promoting justice and inclusivity within the social protection system.
The General Manager of Wafaa emphasized that “this initiative is not just about distributing electric wheelchairs, but a message of hope and determination for people with disabilities in the West Bank. It aims to empower them to live with dignity and participate actively in society. Despite the difficult circumstances in the region, we believe that willpower is stronger than any challenge, and that giving is a moral and religious duty. We are committed to supporting the most vulnerable groups to help them overcome obstacles and achieve their ambitions.”
Dr. Samah Hamad stated that the support provided by Wafaa Development, with the contribution of Penny Appeal, is a significant step toward delivering services to people with disabilities who face additional challenges due to the difficult security and living conditions. She stressed the importance of the partnership between the Ministry of Social Development and civil society organizations in supporting the most vulnerable groups in Palestine, especially under the current difficult circumstances faced by the Palestinian people.
She also emphasized the urgent need to open crossings to allow the entry of humanitarian aid and to end the aggression as an immediate priority, given the immense challenges facing the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing blockade and aggression. The people of Gaza are suffering from dire humanitarian conditions, most notably famine and the lack of basic services. She also called for continued international support for Palestine, particularly in Gaza.
Dr. Hamad added that the partnership between governmental and non-governmental institutions contributes to strengthening social justice and meeting the needs of all vulnerable groups in society. This cooperation reflects a shared commitment to achieving the Ministry of Social Development’s goals in supporting people with disabilities by providing a comprehensive social protection network that addresses the needs of marginalized groups in line with the national development and advancement program. She confirmed that this initiative aligns with the ministry’s strategic plans to promote the rights of people with disabilities and provide them with the necessary support and assistance.
