Kuwaiti Red Crescent Announces Orphan Sponsorship Project in Gaza Strip
Kuwait – May 15 (KUNA) – The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) announced today, Wednesday, the launch of an Orphan Sponsorship Project in the Gaza Strip, in coordination and cooperation with the Wafaa Foundation for Development and Capacity Building.
KRCS Secretary-General Maha Al-Barjas told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), following her meeting with a delegation from the Wafaa Foundation at the Society’s headquarters, that the project aims to provide social, educational, and health care for orphaned children who have lost their breadwinner by creating an appropriate environment for their upbringing and alleviating the financial and psychological suffering these orphans are experiencing.
Al-Barjas added that the Society will market the project to donors who wish to sponsor orphans, noting that the Society aims to sponsor 1,000 orphans from the Gaza Strip.
She explained that the Society seeks to provide psychological and moral support to nurture and prepare these children educationally and socially, in addition to providing food, drink, and clothing. “They are a trust upon us, and they need care, sponsorship, education, and healthcare,” she said.
She also noted, “Their calamity is great — they have lost a parent, been forcibly displaced, and are living in camps awaiting hope,” adding that the Kuwait Red Crescent has been keen since the beginning of the Israeli occupation’s assaults on the Gaza Strip to be present and provide all relief and medical assistance to the brothers there.
For his part, Chairman of the Wafaa Foundation for Development and Capacity Building, Mohasin Atawneh, expressed in a similar statement to KUNA his gratitude and appreciation to the Kuwait Red Crescent Society for its orphan care project in the Gaza Strip, pointing out that the Foundation has never hesitated to support Palestine through all means and methods.
Atawneh said that this project comes as an extension of Kuwait’s humanitarian and developmental contributions in supporting orphans from the Palestinian people, praising Kuwait’s pioneering role in caring for orphans around the world.
He added that the Zionist aggression continues against the Gaza Strip and has left thousands of orphans without a guardian in a besieged area lacking the most basic necessities of life. He explained that comprehensive services will be provided to the orphans to enable them to live in dignity and become active members of their communities and build a better future for themselves.
